weekly highlights from the best fly fishing reports
"The bug soup continues with lots of sulfurs, yellow stones, march browns, popcorn caddis, and the finally identified rithrogena. Oh yeah . . . and there’s brown drakes. Thought that might get your attention. The guides have been flat getting 'em."
"We spent this past week a bit in limbo; waiting for sulfurs to strongly take over the insect activity on the river. Though most days didn’t offer a clearly dominate hatch, many days did offer a buffet of different hatches and spinnerfalls." Spinnerfall fishing: "fishing has ranged from good to incredible over the last few nights."
"be prepared popcorn caddis, light Hendricksons, and sulfurs. Caddis flights have been solid and consistent, but we had a handful of sulfurs yesterday (I truly thought it would blow up) and the big day is in the very near future. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow sort of deal."
"Excellent dry fly fishing continues and there are a lot more than just dark Hendricksons hatching now! The last few days Light Hendricksons, Mahoganies and Stone Flies have gotten going in the Big Waters of the Au Sable River."
"Heavy Hendrickson hatches in the late afternoon the past 4-5 days! ...but no spinner falls of late with the very cold late evenings."

"We're not only seeing two sizes of black stones, but also a few early caddis, and yes, some mayflies as well: blue wing olives, and Quill Gordons (I don't think they were hendricksons)... But that's enough about dry flies. What we've been doing day in and day out is streamer fishing."
