10/26 -- FAIR

10/22: "This storm will add much needed flow to Hot Creek via Mammoth Creek when it warms up. We could see a really great baetis (BWO’s) hatch here in November with excellent conditions. Currently the flows are very low and only about 50% of the usual water is fishable. If you get a honey hole, the “catching” is business as usual on HC. Try a streamer on a deeper pool or run, much over looked here. The fish are still there, it is just difficult to make extended drifts and sexy presentations."

10/19 -- GOOD

"Good.  Water is slightly off color from a minute uptick in flows from recent snow melt. Tons of scuds in the water right now, mostly gray, with a sizable caddis hatch about mid afternoon. Some sporadic mayflies and midges as well."

10/12 -- GOOD

"Good.  Colder weather means shorter hatches and better fishing in the late morning and mid afternoon. Stil mostly Caddis with some Baetis in the mix."  "Fishing is good. Cold weather this week has changed timing of BWO and caddis hatch to midday through early afternoon. Hatches are short but the fish are in their fall feeding mode. Weeds are still thick. Drift a BWO dry through channels where trout will see your fly. Cover water to find concentrations of feeding fish. Warm weather will bring out the remaining hatches of caddis but BWO and midge will be the main fare in winter."

9/28 -- GOOD

"The fish are mostly keyed in on Caddis again, with some baetis mixed in sporadically. With the temps where they've been it's been quite pleasant fishing in the canyon with not much of a change in sight!"  "Good catching in the clear areas- without trying to be redundant; the flows are very low and you will have about half the normal water to fish due to the weeds. The BWO’s are not far off so have the usual tiny mayfly imitations with you."

9/14 -- GOOD

"Not much of a change here over last week except I found frost on my car this morning, so if you want to fish hoppers, don't wait much longer as it's not getting any warmer. Lots of scuds in the water right now. Still some Tricos early, although this may vary depending on how cold the night before is. With Caddis mid-day along with some Baetis."

9/7 -- GOOD

"Good.  Still some Tricos early, although this may vary depending on how cold the night before is. With Caddis mid-day along with some Baetis."

8/31 -- GOOD

"Good.  Not much changing here week to week. It is getting colder at night now. Fall is almost here! Tricos early. Catch the spinner fall around 7-8am. Some Baetis mixed in later in the morning. Lots of scuds in the weeds too. Fishing slows to a crawl by mid-day, but picks up in the later afternoon. Plenty of Caddis, but the fish at this point have seen so many of them they're not as interested. Fish big hoppers on the far bank in the afternoons with a mayfly nymph dropper."  "Getting pretty tough here in the public section due to low flows and protruding weeds making extended dead drifts difficult with only about half the usual spots fishable. Good casters with polished mending skills can still have fun with small may fly, caddis and midge adults."

8/24 -- GOOD

"Fishing slows to a crawl by mid-day, but picks up in the later afternoon. Tricos early. Catch the spinner fall around 7-8am. Some Baetis mixed in later in the morning. Lots of scuds in the weeds too. Don't forget about some BWOs if it's overcast or it looks like it's about to rain. Plenty of Caddis, but they fish at this point have seen so many of them they're not as interested. Fish big hoppers on the far bank in the afternoons with a mayfly nymph dropper."

8/16 -- GOOD

"For the most part the fishing here has been good. Most of the grabs have been on caddis patterns. Nymphing with tiger midges, caddis larva or cdc caddis emergers have been working well. For dries in the afternoon and evening try a spot lite caddis, elk hair caddis or my favorite a Hot Creek Caddis. They are on the dark side so they can be a bit tough to see. The water is getting low so the weeds are a big factor here. Look for the open lanes. Through most of the morning, midges, BWO's have been working well on the surface. A perfect drag free drift is a must!"

8/3 -- GOOD

"Despite low flows HC is still fishing well when the wind is not howling.  There is strong caddis activity, but these PHD trout here seem to prefer the small mayflies and midges.  The Trico hatch is not everyone’s cup O’tea as these tiny rascals are #22 and very difficult to drift."

7/26 -- GOOD

No new reports.

7/20 -- GOOD

"Big Trico hatch early in the morning with some Baetis later in the morning. Caddis in the afternoon. Slap big hoppers on the far bank around mid-day when the hatches slow down. Nymphing is getting tougher as the weeds grow in and the water drops."

7/13 -- GOOD

"Big Trico hatch early in the morning. Followed by Caddis into the evening."   "The caddis hatch is in full swing. Be sure to use small size 20-22 flies. Tricos are also making a good showing."

7/6 -- GOOD

"HC is still fishing well, solid surface action on caddis, midge or midge clusters as they are getting smaller. PMD mayflies around as well so have some #18-20 adults.

6/29 -- GOOD

"Hopper season has arrived! Fish the far bank and slap it on the water so it makes some noise."

6/21 -- GOOD

No new reports.

6/9 -- GOOD

"Good mix of PMDs and Caddis. With some midges early and in the evening."

6/1 -- GOOD

"Good action on Caddis drys and emergers when it's not windy. Some Midges early and late, but the fish are keyed in mostly on Caddis."
