"Winter fishing continues to be good on the Nevada side of the Truckee River." Below zero at night in the town of Truckee. Read the discussion (and see the video) of the controversial catch of a monster brown on the Little Truckee.
"It just doesn’t warm up enough this time of year on the Cali side of the Truckee River for any real consistent fishing. Your best bet this time of year is to fish the Nevada side of the river where air temps and water temps are warmer." 425 CFS (vs 275 avg).

"The water is cold and the fish are lethargic but still have to eat...but it will take an excellent angler to get a few fish! Try Baetis or Midges and possibly an Egg pattern or San Juan Worm...The lower you go towards Nevada the better the opportunity will be." BWO's below Reno on cloudy days; also try midges and streamers. Winds have subsided. Has been frigid at night (single digits). Closed in CA above the 267 bridge. Just spiked from 450 to 550 CFS Thursday night and still climbing(?) (vs 300 avg).

"Fishing continues to get tougher on the river as the water temps drop" (low 40's in Truckee) -- which is occuring despite dry and mild weather (which includes lows in the teens in Truckee...). Nymphing is best, despite some BWO's and midges. If you swing streamers, move them slowly in the cold water. 480 CFS (vs 210 avg).

Fishing slowing with colder water. Nymphing best (golden stones, smalll baetis, sj worms, birds nests, etc.). BWO's hatching. Big rainbows in NV desert area. 470 CFS (vs 325 avg).

BWO's have increased with colder weather. Best fishing in canyon stretch due to higher water. Browns are spawning -- egg hatch soon for rainbows. Desert section: "this time of year it’s on fire, the rattlers are gone, and them Trout are hungry." 450 CFS (vs 320 avg).

Best when cloudy. Nymphing top method. Baetis, october caddis, eggs, sj worms, streamers. Top stretch is canyon from boca to verdi. Browns spawning soon. Truckee hit 10 degrees wednesday night! 460 CFS (vs 380 avg).

Indian summer weather not helping. Would be great streamer and BWO fishing with cloudier weather. Lows in the teens(!) expected mid-week. 500 CFS (vs 400 avg).

"Big browns are on the prowl and looking to eat." BWO's, smalll caddis, a few october caddis. Streamers, crayfish. 475 CFS (vs 425 avg) (after 550 CFS spike tuesday).

"It don’t get much better...If you can’t catch fish now on the Truckee River, than you should sell the fly rod and strictly stick to golf." Nymphs, BWO's, streamers. "Scary" big browns.

Lots of big daddies being hooked -- few landed. Evening caddis, small mayflies, big stones, caddis larve, standard mayfly nymphs, hoppers, crayfish, streamers... 480 CFS (vs 400 avg). Rain and snow (!) this week -- call ahead. Could be a few slushy inches at river level -- winter storm warning for 5-10 above 7000 feet. Lows in the low 20's thursday night.
