"...erratic generation with significantly less wadable water." (between 9000 and 17000 CFS, vs 6000 avg). "It will pay for you to use flies with bright color at this time." "I always wonder why there's not more people fishing in the winter months." Some success in bad weather. Try various flies: sj worms, eggs, midge pupae, streamers.

"Trout at Rim Shoals have already spawned and it’s looking like a late spawn this year as well." No-kill section below Bull Shoals Dam closed until 1/31/12. SJ worms, copper johns, midges. Generally unwadeable flows between 10,000 and 15,000 CFS (vs 14,000 avg).

"Midges are the main hatch, and fish focus in on them and the always available scuds and sow bugs this time of year. If we see any other hatches it will be Tiny BlueWinged Olives or midcrocaddis during calm afternoons." Brown trout are spawning. Most recently between 7000 and 12,000 CFS (vs 7000 avg).

"The big story has been substantial wadable water on the White River." Some sections closed through 1/31/12. 6000 CFS (vs 3200 avg), with much less gyration.

"Some wadeable water most days". Wildcat shoals, rim shoals. SJ worms, copper johns, midges, beadhead hares ears. Still some grasshoppers. Clousers, wooly buggers. "Big browns by and large have moved up river and won't be pushed back out of the spawning grounds until February." Fluctuating between 4000 and 9000 CFS (vs 8000 avg).

Cooler weather, flows moving around a lot, most recently between 4800 and 8200 CFS (vs 2900 avg) -- "should require changing tactics soon". Hoppers then microcaddis exiting stage left. Try BWO's and attractor dries. Bull shoals powerhouse shut down again monday.

A few water shut-offs, more probable. "The brown trout are on the move daily and podding up for the annual spawn." Improving after full moon phase. BWO's, caddis. Nymphs > dries. Between 6500 and 9500.

Down to between 6000 and 11,000 CFS (from 17,000 a week ago, vs 3000 avg). No new reports. Call ahead.
Flows between 13,000 and 15,000 CFS (vs 2000 avg), but expected to change soon. Low dissolved oxygen killing some fish in lakes, but not rivers. Better oxygen levels downstream. SJ worms, scud, sowbugs.
